When Engineer Federico Stubbe planned the exciting development of Sabanera Dorado, he knew that the community would be incomplete without an excellent school to educate the residents’ children. He joined forces with three prominent educators with experience in Europe, the United States and Puerto Rico and they approached TASIS, The American School in Switzerland, with its more than 50 years of experience in educating students in several highly rated schools and numerous summer programs.
In 2002 the dream became a reality within the grounds of Sabanera Dorado. The school’s building complex, set on 20 acres within the Sabanera Community, was masterfully designed by Architect Otto Reyes to reflect European flair with a Caribbean influence.
Music, art, drama, physical education, computer and library skills complement the basics, all subject to the high academic standards of the TASIS system and the requirements of a college-bound student. The school’s commitment to instilling the essential qualities of honesty, compassion, fairness, and respect is commensurate with its educational philosophy of raising well-rounded, successful individuals.
In 2011 the school graduated its first senior class, from a school already fully accredited by the local accreditation commission, CADIE, and by the national and international Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. From Pre-Pre-Kindergarteners learning about colors and shapes to high school students debating the finer points of past events in an AP American History class, the classrooms of TASIS Dorado provides a rich and stimulating environment where learning is paramount and caring is a fundamental part of the process.
